People expect photorealistic effects from Hollywood films, we at Maac Kolkata took up the challenge to create similar visual effect in an Indian environment with limited recourses and limited budget. This effort of ours took us to enter the VFX Challenge of the 24FPS International Animation Awards. It motivated MAAC Kankugachi\u2019s students to prepare to take up the given challenge.<\/p>\n
VFX or visual effects have become an integral part of the film industry these days. Record suggests that nearly 90% of movies require some amount of VFX work with live-action shoots arrangements and expanded at the post-production level. Srinivas Mohan, who was supervising the VFX for the Baahubali<\/em> films, believes that Indian movies can achieve 80% of the level of work seen in films like Avatar<\/em> at about a quarter of the cost. This is actually true.<\/p>\n As the mid-October deadline for the 24FPS 2016 competition’s mainstream categories draws closer, MAAC Kankurgachi prepares its VFX team – dubbed ‘The Invisibles<\/em>‘ as a nod to the workers of visual magic in film – working hard to complete the project with the expected level of aplomb and polish. Production is well underway, with the modelled and textured CG sets for the shots being compiled for lighting. The final and crucial step, compositing, is next on the agenda.<\/p>\n
