The word animation<\/a> is abbreviated as Anime and pronounced as “ah-<\/span><\/em>knee-may\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Anime<\/p>\n

In Japan, the word is used to refer to all animation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It has become the universal term for animation from Japan, for the outside world or as Japanese disseminated animation\u00a0style<\/a>\u00a0often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastical themes.<\/p>\n

The earliest commercial Japanese animation<\/a> dates to 1917.<\/p>\n

The first professional and publicly displayed works began to appear, in 1917.<\/p>\n

\"Anime<\/p>\n

Kouchi’s\u00a0Namakura Gatana<\/em><\/a>, a two-minute clip of a samurai trying to test a new sword on his target only to suffer defeat,The oldest surviving film.<\/p>\n

The success of\u00a0The Walt Disney Company<\/a>‘s 1937 feature film\u00a0Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs<\/em><\/a>\u00a0profoundly influenced many Japanese animators.<\/p>\n

Osamu Tezuka<\/a> adapted and simplified many Disney animation<\/a> techniques to reduce costs\u00a0the characteristic anime art style emerged in the 1960s with his works.<\/p>\n

The first anime shown on television was Three Tales<\/em><\/a>, aired in 1960.<\/p>\n

Under Tezuka,the giant\u00a0robot<\/a>\u00a0genre took shape. It developed into the\u00a0Super Robot<\/a>\u00a0genre under\u00a0Go Nagai<\/a>\u00a0and others, and was revolutionized at the end of the decade by\u00a0Yoshiyuki Tomino<\/a>\u00a0who developed the\u00a0Real Robot<\/a>\u00a0genre.<\/p>\n

Commercial productions in 1917, which led to Theatrical viewing was the first format of Anime.<\/p>\n

Originally the animated<\/a> flips were crude and required played musical components before adding sound and vocal components to the production.<\/p>\n

It wasn’t until the 1960s when the first televised series were broadcast and it has remained a popular medium since.<\/p>\n

With the VHS and\u00a0LaserDisc<\/a>\u00a0formats, the home distribution of anime releases was popularized in the 1980\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Anime is distributed directly to home media, and over the Internet by way of television broadcasts.<\/p>\n

Typical production of animation, which includes\u00a0storyboarding<\/a>,\u00a0voice acting<\/a>,\u00a0character design<\/a>, and\u00a0cel production<\/a> are followed in Anime.<\/p>\n

Since the 1990s, computer animation<\/a> has been increasingly used by the animators\u00a0to improve the efficiency of the production process.<\/p>\n

In works such as\u00a0Ghost in the Shell<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Princess Mononoke<\/em><\/a>\u00a0mixing cel animation with computer-generated images, computers were integrated into the animation process in the 1990\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Japanese animation studios have given anime a distinct set of conventions and were pioneers of many\u00a0limited animation<\/a>\u00a0techniques.<\/p>\n

Anime emphasizes the art quality and let limited animation techniques make up for the lack of time spent on movement, but Disney animation lays emphasis on the movement.<\/p>\n

Anime backgrounds are instrumental in creating the atmosphere of the work and the scenes place emphasis on achieving three-dimensional views.<\/p>\n

It is shot by camera, as if in a movie, including panning, zooming, distance and angle shots to more complex dynamic shots that would be difficult to produce in reality.<\/p>\n

The animation is produced before the voice acting in Anime while the American animation does the voice acting first.<\/p>\n

More than 430 production companies comprises the Animation industry with some of the major studios including Toei Animation,Gainax, Madhouse,Gonzo, Sunrise, Bones,TMS Entertainment,Nippon Animation,P.A.Works,Studio Pierrot and Studio Ghibli.<\/p>\n

The Association of Japanese Animations<\/a>– a Trade Association, have been organised by many studios together.<\/p>\n

There is also a labor union for workers in the industry, the\u00a0Japanese Animation Creators Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n

More complex and costly projects are done by many studios working together,as done with Studio Ghibli’s\u00a0Spirited Away<\/em><\/a>. An anime episode can cost between\u00a0US$<\/a>100,000 and US$300,000 to produce.<\/p>\n

The 1970s saw a surge of growth in the popularity of\u00a0Japanese\u00a0comic books<\/a> and\u00a0novels, popularly known as \u2018manga\u2019 many of which were later animated.<\/p>\n

Osamu Tezuka was called a “legend”\u00a0and the “god of manga” and his work drew much attention.<\/p>\n

Anime became more accepted in the\u00a0mainstream<\/a>\u00a0in Japan during the 80\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Some Anime were successfully adapted in overseas markets in the 1980s, after which, anime gained increased acceptance in the 1990s and even more at the turn of the 21st century.<\/p>\n

In 2002,\u00a0Spirited Away<\/em><\/a>, a\u00a0Studio Ghibli<\/a>\u00a0production directed by\u00a0Hayao Miyazaki<\/a>\u00a0won at the\u00a075th Academy Awards<\/a>.\u00a0it won the\u00a0Academy Award for Best Animated Feature<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2001, 4.6% market share for live-action works were there while animation accounted for 7% of the Japanese film market.<\/p>\n

The DVD market, contributed to nearly 70% of total sales, through which the popularity and success of anime can be seen.<\/p>\n

Over\u00a0\u00a560 billion\u00a0worth of anime have been bought by Japanese Tv stations from production companies “over the past few years”, compared with under\u00a0\u00a520 billion\u00a0from overseas, as per a 2016 article on Nikkei-Asian review.<\/p>\n

Spirited Away<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(2001) is the\u00a0all-time highest-grossing film in Japan<\/a>.\u00a0It was also the\u00a0highest-grossing anime film worldwide\u00a0until it was overtaken by\u00a0Makoto Shinkai<\/a>‘s 2016 film\u00a0Your Name<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Large part of the highest-grossing Japanese films \u00a0in Japan in a year consists of Anime Films, with 6 out of the top 10\u00a0in 2014<\/a>,\u00a0in 2015<\/a>\u00a0and also in\u00a02016<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As demonstrated by early commercially successful Western adaptations of anime, such as\u00a0Astro Boy<\/em><\/a> and\u00a0Speed Racer<\/em><\/a>, Anime has become commercially profitable in\u00a0Western countries<\/a> also.<\/p>\n

United States is having Anime market worth approximately $2.74 billion in 2009.\u00a0In 2000 networks like\u00a0The WB<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Cartoon Network<\/a>, started airing the dubbed animations in USA .<\/p>\n

As a result of the dubbed animations being shown,five of the top ten anime titles got previously aired on Cartoon Network.<\/p>\n

Early American adoptions in the 1960,s made Japan expand into the continental European market, first with productions aimed at European and Japanese children, such as\u00a0Heidi<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0Vicky the Viking<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Barbapapa<\/em><\/a>, which aired in various countries.<\/p>\n

Particularly Italy, Spain and France grew an interest into Japan’s output, due to its cheap selling price and productive output. In fact, most Anime imported outside of Japan was to Italy.<\/p>\n

These large imports had a great influence in anime popularity in South American, Arabic and German markets.<\/p>\n

Japanese anime series were introduced into the American culture at the beginning of 1980. In the 1990s, Japanese animation slowly gained popularity in America.<\/p>\n

Publishing and releasing animation<\/a> into the American market was started by Media companies such as Viz and Mixx .<\/p>\n

The growth of the Internet provided Western audiences an easy way to access Japanese content.<\/p>\n

This is especially the case with net services such as\u00a0Netflix<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Crunchyroll<\/a>.<\/p>\n
